Pray or Be Prey: Praying for Our Friends

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
1 Peter 5:8 NKJV

“Simon, Simon, indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.”
Luke 22:31b NKJV

“But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail.”
Luke 22:32a NKJV

Prayer for Friends means I must have. . .

1.  Compassion and an outward focus.

"Simon, Simon, indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.”
Luke 22:31b NKJV

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 Peter 2:11-12 NIV

2.  Grace for mistakes.

“But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail.”
Luke 22:32a NKJV

Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.
Matthew 26:74-75 NKJV

3. Faith for the fallen.

“And when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Luke 22:32b NKJV

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
1 Peter 2:24 NIV
