Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not sure what I really believe. If I come, will I be judged or shunned for not already being a Christian?
You will not be turned away for any reason. We welcome questions, skeptics, critics and the curious and we have found God welcomes and loves everyone with all of their doubts and questions (including us) so how could we not extend that kindness to others?!
I have a past that I'm not proud of and I still struggle with things I'm ashamed of. Am I still welcome?
Absolutely. In the bible Jesus welcomed all people to come to him and experience the transformative love of God. No matter where you've been, this is the place to be.
What is your Church's political stance?
We believe the highest form of liberty and the highest form of justice is not found in political ideology, but rather in divine ideology. The Bible is clear when it says that there will be many kingdoms of the world seeking to rule people and to enforce their own ideals, but only one kingdom, God's kingdom, can bring true liberty to the soul, true justice for the oppressed and true transformation to those in need. This belief does not excuse us from political conversations, but rather compels us and propels us into the issues of the world with the truth of God through the good news of Jesus.  No matter your political stance you are welcome here, and can expect us to represent God's agenda, not a political agenda.
What are your weekend celebrations like?
Every Sunday we host a transformational environment where within 60 minutes you’ll experience exciting, contemporary music and a practical, relevant message. You’ll also find a printed outline for notes in your program that will help you make the most of each week’s teaching, or you can download our free VCC App to follow along. Children are well-cared for in a loving, quality nursery and fun-filled Vineyard Kids celebration, staffed by verified-safe volunteers.
What will happen when I visit for the first time?
You can expect friendly faces that are thrilled you're here to be holding open the front doors for you. In our cafe area you can expect refreshments like hot coffee and fresh donuts just in case you didn't have time for breakfast in the morning. You can also expect to have space to find a comfortable seat with your family to be able to take in the experience. Your first time anywhere can be a lot to take in, so we won't overwhelm or put you on the spot, but we'd love to answer questions and get to know you - so our welcome center is the perfect place for you to come by and learn more about the Vineyard and receive a free gift for being our guest. The welcome center is a yellow desk with the words "First time here?" located in our auditorium / gymnasium.
What do I wear to a weekend celebration?
You’ll find everything from motorcycle jackets to suit jackets in a Weekend Celebration. Jesus preached in sandals more than he ever preached in dress shoes (because they weren't invented yet!) so our speaking pastors might wear Oxford shoes, flip-flops or Harley-Davidson boots depending on the weather. Come in what is comfortable for you! The Vineyard is not about what you look like or what you wear—it's about who you are on the inside.
Where are you located?
Vineyard Community Church, partnering with the Baxter YMCA, is located at 7900 Shelby St. Indianapolis, IN, 46227. For more information, visit the I'm New page.
Why is your church in a YMCA?
When Jesus came to earth, he had "church" everywhere he went! This is because Jesus taught that "The Church" was a people, not a building. The Vineyard Community Church began partnering with the YMCA in 2021 to see more and more people hear the good news of Jesus and to create more opportunities to serve the community together.
What about my children?
At Vineyard Community Church your children are a top priority. Our nurseries are clean, safe, and staffed with loving workers. We offer a dynamic children's area called Vineyard Kids as well as a life-changing area for students from junior high through high school, all staffed by our verified-safe volunteers.
How can I meet others and get connected?
There are many ways to get involved. You can begin by attending our Growth Track. LifeGroups are another great way to connect, along with serving. In each of these, you can build friendships, learn more about the life of our church, and have the opportunity to grow in your faith!
How can I  grow and go deeper spiritually?
Our desire is to see you become a friend and faith-filled follower of Jesus. Our Growth Track offers the tools necessary to make this happen in your life. You can begin the process at any point in our Growth Track.
Why do you have LifeGroups?
LifeGroups are an important part of Vineyard; in fact, you haven’t fully experienced the church until you’ve experienced our LifeGroups. LifeGroups allow you to meet other members and develop relationships that will spur your relationship with God. As Vineyard grows, groups allow us to “stay small” and connected. Groups are available for all ages and interests—there’s bound to be one that’s just right for you. Check out our groups page, where you can learn more about why we’re big on LifeGroups, or find a group to visit.
How can I get involved in a group?
One of the easiest things to do at Vineyard is to participate in a LifeGroup. LifeGroups meet throughout the week and provide a place for Bible study, community, and support. Wherever you live, there’s a small group near you. Check out our groups page and visit a group this week.
